Elon made me angry so I developed a free "For You" Feed for Mastodon. It uses a very simple customizable algorithm that includes your feed but also top posts from multiple other instances. It favours accounts that were reblogged multiple times in your feed, or accounts you interacted with in the past.
Its still in early development, but if you are aware of the risks of trying out late night software you can try it here:

Also the code is here:

I didn't have "dystopian RSS reader" on my 2023 bingo card but here we are...
CVE-2023-21036 / acropalypse is absolutely bonkers.
Apparently for 5+ years the cropping / editing tools for screenshots on Google Pixel phones was only overwriting the start of the screenshot PNG file, but not truncating.
All screenshots shared for the past 5+ years might have data recoverable from them. Demo available at https://acropalypse.app/
Google still hasn't communicated anything on this.

Just a reminder that a conservative goverment cannot be trusted with any levers of power.

"The Pocky game often results in a kiss, so it makes sense to pick a partner you wouldn’t mind kissing to begin with.
You can use this as an opportunity to break the ice with your crush or bring you closer to a good friend."
i am reminded of an essay i read once called "avoid news" which might sound extreme to some people but it actually has a simple premise: most of what you encounter in media suffers from context collapse and/or is not actionable. therefore it can never truly be relevant. what is far more valuable is filtering through the news for anything actionable worth educating people about, and presenting it in a more relevant and digestible way. not everyone should have to do this.
I think it's fun to build tiny specialized Mastodon clients for myself, that do a subset of what a normal Mastodon client does, but in a slightly different way.

If you're considering Discordifying your wiki, docs, FAQs, whatever and the people screaming "Please don't do this for a laundry list of reasons starting from the inability to archive it, pivoting through the shitty search and ending at the fact that not everyone can access Discord" haven't moved you, consider this.
95% of the people who show up in your Discord instance will *not* be looking to join a community and contribute. They want to open a webpage, ctrl-F some words, and get an answer. Your chat is now that web page and everyone in it is now their answer engine. They will ask, wherever they want, without reading the rules. They will either get an answer or not. They will leave.
That will be your entire Discord existence: an effective verbose log of every ctrl-F your users would have done in an FAQ.
